Dear Fillmore Parents and Students,

As 2025-2026 school year closes, I am so honored to have served once again as Fillmore’s Assistant Principal for these past 6 months.  On one hand, I am sad to say goodbye again to the Fillmore school community.  I have enjoyed and loved working with so many wonderful parents, students, and staff who I will miss.  I will miss working with Ms. Duangsawat who I have grown to respect and admire her vision and leadership. On the other hand, I enter once again into retirement.  Although I had found a new routine in retirement last year, I did not hesitate when Ms. Duangsawat called me and asked me to return back to serve the community I came to admire when I moved to Stockton from Los Angeles back in 1996.  I promise to be back volunteering and working as a substitute when it is needed.  It has been a long career for me as I reflect back when I started as a young bilingual teacher in East Los Angeles in the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1984 to this past year having worked as an assisant principal for the last 12 years.  I attribute this long career to my parents who instilled in me the devotion for family, community, and country.  This has been my purpose in life and will continue to serve in whatever capacity is needed of me in the future.  Thank you Fillmore for allowing me to be part of this tremendous community.

Sincerely,

Larry Hernandez, Assistant Principal

January 26, 2026

As many of you remember, I retired back in June 2025 after having served as Fillmore’s Assistant Principal for six years, in Stockton Unified School District since 1996, and twelve years with Los Angeles Unified School District, where I began my career back in 1984.  A total of 42 years devoted to public school education!  Since then, I have been enjoying what seems like a very long summer vacation!  But now I have been called back to fill in the role once again as Assistant Principal at Fillmore.

As your previous and returning assistant principal, I have taken the time to reintroduce myself to our parents and students.  Please be assured that I will continue my role as the assistant principal until the end of the 2025-2026 school year.  I am both excited and willing to resume all duties as before.  This means I will work tirelessly to keep our students well behaved at school and to keep all parents informed of the latest school news with near daily postings on Fillmore's website and ParentSquare.   Our school marquee is currently out of commission as it is in need of some new hardward, but as soon as it is repaired, I will resume displaying weekly messages on it.

I will also resume providing support to our parents with our ELAC meetings.  My goal is to have a monthly ELAC meeting on the last Friday of each month starting in February 2026.  I also encourage parents to join our Parent Coffee Hour meetings and all activities hosted by Fillmore School.  I will coordinate all activities with parents with Mrs. Norma Mercado, Parent Specialist, and Mrs. Maria Jimenez, Community Assistant.  Be on the lookout for phone calls and Class Dojo messages from Mrs. Mercado and Mrs. Jimemez.  As always, parents are encouraged to meet with me in my office to seek support for their child's academic and behavioral concerns.  I am bilingual, therefore please do not hesitate to request a meeting to resolve a problem.

Sincerely,

Larry Hernandez, Assistant Principal
