Fillmore Elementary

Welcome

Assistant Principal

Larry Hernandez

Mr. Hernandez

January 29, 2026

Dear Fillmore Parents and Students,

As many of you remember, I retired back in June 2025 after having served as Fillmore’s Assistant Principal for six years, in Stockton Unified School District since 1996, and twelve years with Los Angeles Unified School District, where I began my career back in 1984.  A total of 42 years devoted to public school education!  Since then, I have been enjoying what seems like a very long summer vacation!  But now I have been called back to fill in the role once again as Assistant Principal at Fillmore.

As your previous and returning assistant principal, I have taken the time to reintroduce myself to our parents and students.  Please be assured that I will continue my role as the assistant principal until the end of the 2025-2026 school year.  I am both excited and willing to resume all duties as before.  This means I will work tirelessly to keep our students well behaved at school and to keep all parents informed of the latest school news with near daily postings on Fillmore's website and ParentSquare.   Our school marquee is currently out of commission as it is in need of some new hardward, but as soon as it is repaired, I will resume displaying weekly messages on it.

I will also resume providing support to our parents with our ELAC meetings.  My goal is to have a monthly ELAC meeting on the last Friday of each month starting in February 2026.  I also encourage parents to join our Parent Coffee Hour meetings and all activities hosted by Fillmore School.  I will coordinate all activities with parents with Mrs. Norma Mercado, Parent Specialist, and Mrs. Maria Jimenez, Community Assistant.  Be on the lookout for phone calls and Class Dojo messages from Mrs. Mercado and Mrs. Jimemez.  As always, parents are encouraged to meet with me in my office to seek support for their child's academic and behavioral concerns.  I am bilingual, therefore please do not hesitate to request a meeting to resolve a problem.

Sincerely,

Larry Hernandez, Assistant Principal
